Our Final BBC 2 Ident.

Evaluation

For this assignment we have had six weeks to complete the task, working in groups of 4/5. In the group we all had different jobs of what we had to do to make our final outcome to as high a standard as we could. Everyone had to complete there own  task within the group for it to be classed as proper team work.
First we had to create an idea for put BBC 2 Ident that we all liked and all agreed on and thought would look and work well within in the assignment. We then all agreed on the idea of dropping the number 2 into a load of skittles as we thought this would make a great picture and a dramatic effect if put into slow motion.
First of all we had to do a range of test shoots to see if our idea really worked the way we wanted it to - we had to hire a time to use the studio so that we could practice these shoots. We did this about 2/3 times to make sure we got it perfect. During this we figured out how many skittles we needed if we needed more or less (the answer was more) we all put money into buying all the bags of skittles so it was fair - also we figured out how heavy we need to make the number 2 and what size we needed to make it etc.
Once we had done all this we could then get on with making our number to - we created this within the college using cardboard/paper mache and paint, this took use a few days to make as we had to leave time for each of the layers to dry. But this was no problem as we did it over the end of the week when we didn't need to use it - this meant people in the group coming in on one of the fridays to finish painting it, but this was not a problem as they were coming in anyway. we took it in turns to cut out the different layers of the number two - so we were all chipping in at some point.
It was when it came to doing the paper mache and  paining the 2, two of the team members seemed to take over and do this part on there own and didn't think about including the rest of the group!
During the process of making and filming the outcome other small films were made of the working progress. These were then posted onto our blogs to show what we had been doing. (i took the short films to document the progress)
Once all this was done and our final piece had been filmed it was now time for it to be edited so it was how we really wanted it to look - we decided we were going to slow it all down and the reverse the film! We thought this would create a great image and it really worked well and made the effect of the skittles really stand out - which is one of the main things we were trying to create in the first place. To edit our final piece we thought again two members of the group took this over - admittedly  one of them was set the task of the editor but they didn't really try and included us in what was happening or what they were going to do.
Over all i really like the idea we have come  up with and i think it looks and works really well and i am very happy with the final outcome but i would have liked it and it would have maybe been more fun if our group had come together and bit more and communicated with each other as it was kind of split in two. This problem could be solved or next time different groups could be made - think most people agree.
And over all i think everyone in the group is pleased with our final BBC 2 IDENT :)

Our final Video Before Editing...

* Now that our final number 2 is painted and completed we could begin to start our final shoot. Two of our other team mates came into college on a spare friday to painted the number 2, as it needed time to dry after it was paper mached on the wednesday.
* After this we then did 2/3 more test shoots in the studio to make sure it all worked and fitted with the plan how we wanted it too.
* All the test shoots went to plan and we then took our final film for the BBC 2 ident.
* We are going to edit our final BBC ident - we will do this by reversing the clip in slow motion to show the effect that the skittles make.
*The editing shouldn't take long - as the editor should be okay if they grasp how to use the software easily. (Editor Jordon)

This is the start of editing our final video:
To edited the clip we used 'final cut pro'. Firstly we had to drag our clip into final cut pro, and then we 'renderder' it so that it would play. After rendering the clip we got rid of the audio, and to do this we had to go onto 'modify' and then down to 'link' and then this was able to let us click on the audio and then press delete to get rid of it.  We then had to slow the movie down and reverse it, so do to this we went onto 'modify' then down to 'speed' and then a box popped up and we clicked 'revers' ad changed the speed from 100% to 50%. We then needed to cut the clip so we went to the cut icon on the right hand side, and then clicked onto the part that we wanted to cut, and preset delete so then we were left with the part of the clip we wanted.

After doing this we decided to add another video to make it longer and it give it more of an effect. To do this we had to drag the video we wanted into 'final cut pro' and then we slowed it down they same way as before. We also cut the clip to were we wanted it to. After doing this we had to put a transformation (dissolve) into the video so that it didnt jump from one clip to another. We then added a sound clip to it so that it gave a better effect (Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head). We downloaded the song of youtube using youtube converter, after we had downloaded this we dragged it into 'Final cut pro' and then we used the 'cut' tool to cut the song to were we wanted it to play from. Then we faded the song out to make the video as a whole look a lot better.
Finally, we had finished the video and then we exported it using 'quicktime player'

Making our final BBC Ident

We are making our own final number 2 - this will be made in class. We are making it out of a a white foam board - we will draw and cut out the shape of the number 2.
This is a video of JORDON making the 2.
We are going to cut out seven/eight number 2's from the foam board and then these will all be placed in a pile on top of one another to form a thick based number 2. We will then make paper mache and cover the number 2 in this, it will then be painted white in order to make the number 2 that we want.
Here is a clip/image of the number 2 being cut out in the shape and size that we want it. (done by molly)
This next clip is of the number 2's being constructed into the pile so it becomes thicker and creates the shape we are aiming for. (this is done by Jordan while molly continues to cut them out).
Here is another image - the number 2 we have made on the left and the original model on the right.
We had to come in and use time during our other days at college to finish creating the 2 - we had to paper mache and paint it in time for it to dry for our final shoot in the studio.

Once our final number 2 had been finally created we had to take it into the studio and take a test shoot to see if it worked the same as the sample one. Overall we did about 3 test shoots.

What we used in the studio:
*We used a simple table to place the tray on which would hold all the skittles and be the main base for our BBC 2 ident and the final video would take place.
* We didn't use the main lights we only used 2 or 3 studio lights which were focused on the table to give use the right amount of light for when we were shooting our film.
*We also used our own props such as the Number 2 that we made and the 6 bags of skittles that were then separated into there colours.
*We also used a flip camera form college to film our shoots:
*To keep the camera still and in the correct position we wanted it while filming so the view and shoot was as clear as we could have it we used a camera stand:
*We used all this equipment to create the film and all the people in our group had separate jobs to do to create our final film shoot. This was again created in the studio and then edited on the computer.

Skittles Idea.

For our final BBC 2 ident we have based it all around skittles and dropping the letter two into them.
At first we had the idea of a pile of skittles in the centre of a tray and we would then drop the 2 into them sending the skittles in a multiple of directions. - after this we had the idea of placing the cardboard number 2 in the middle of the tray and then putting skittles around it so when the 2 was moved a shape of a number 2 in skittles was left on the tray.
We really liked this idea and then we thought it might look even better if the skittles were all colour matched in different areas of the two. We took all these ideas that we came up with and decided to end our clip with the skittles colour matched in the shape of a 2 in the middle of the tray:
This is one of the ideas:

From all the ideas we have come up with, we have blended some together and taken parts from each one - but our final idea is:
We will have a load of skittles placed in the middle of a tray which will then have the number 2 dropped into the middle of them sending them in different directions around the tray. Once that has taken place we will stop the film and arrange the skittles into colored areas in the shape of a 2. We will then play the film again and the fist shot will be of just the skittles arranged  in the shape of a number 2. The clip will finish like this or the cardboard 2 will be dropped into of the skittles once again! - we haven't fully decided yet.

BBC 2 Ident ideas.

For this assignment we have been set a task to make our own BBC ident. We are going to work in groups with up to 5 people in and this will take us six weeks to complete. We have to make our own BBC ident. Each person will be set a role to do within making it - the roles are:
- Camera man - Danie Jones
- Lighting - Tishaa Hawkins
- Prop Stylist - Sammy Bebbington (ME)
-  Set Designer - Molly Burton
- Editor - Jordon Axford
The team leader will also be - Molly Burton
We have all chose to take lead in these certain role's but we will all work together as a team throughout the six weeks.
We will have to sort everything out ourselves - the Idea of our BBC 2 Ident, Props and setting that we need, Materials, We will also have to do research on other BBC 2 Idents to help us get ideas. Our film/clip will last about 10-30-seconds. We are allowed to edit or final Ident on any program we like. We are hoping to shoot our film in the studio, using the studio lights and background.

The aims of this assignment are:
- To develop understanding of studio/Location techniques for moving imagery media productions
- Develop design methods, techniques, and technologies
- To produce experimental studio/day light lighting techniques
- To develop skills when filming with a DV digital video camera and tripod
- To develop skills when editing with video software and audio techniques.

Throughout this assignment we are encouraged to be as creative as possible:
- The number '2' must be featured within our Ident
- It must last for approx. 10-30-seconds
- If sound is used it must be ambient in nature and appropriate for our theme
- The idea we come up with must be practically possible to create

Research:
For our research we must look at TV, film, adverts etc. For this we can use youtube.

Materials:
For the materials we use, we must try and use high quality props - the construction of our '2' will need to be completed at a hight standard - a design will need to be created for this.
Materials we will need for the skittles idea:
- A tray (large scale) - we might be able to borrow this from the art department - if not we will make/buy one.
- skittles (8 Bags?) - we will all buy a few bags each
- Letter '2' - this will be made out of cardboard and we will all make this together

Here are some examples of indents off the BBC One website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/idents/

IDEAS:
1) So far we have come up with the idea of using skittles. We would use a large amount of skittles (24-bags) and empty all the skittles out into a tray this would be painted white the same colour as the letter 2 that we make - the number '2' that we created would then be dropped into the middle of the tray sending the skittles in all different directions, Creating a dramatic effect. And sending a range of bright colours in all different directions. When this was to be edited we would make it into slow motion so you can capture the effects more.
For example we will use the things below:

2) The second idea is a 'Human number two' - For this we would used 14-20 people to create the shape of a number 2. To make this more interesting than just people standing in the shape of a number 2, they would start outside the located area , wile filming and then they would all walk in and take there place in the number 2 - they would stand still for about 10-seconds and then exit out of the located/filmed area again. This idea would be filmed from up above from a building window. So you are getting a birds eye view of whats happening - making it more interesting to watch.
^ In each sections of this number two above  we will have a person standing to create the right shape.

3) For the 3rd idea we would create a plastic number 2, but this would not have a top layer on it as we would fill the inside with water and would need to keep the top open and clear. Our idea after this is to get red food coloring and slowing from above us a pep-pet to drop a single drop of food colouring into different areas of the number to , so bit by bit it will creatively change colour to red. Hopefully making nice patterns etc. We will have to have towels etc on stand by incase we aren't successful with the food colouring.
- We get the idea and hope it will look something like this:
- The design for our plastic/clear number to will be something like this:
This number 2 will be about and inch to two inches deep - this is so there is then enough space for the water to go in and so we can see the effect and change the food colouring makes to the water.

Evaluation Of My Stop Motion Film

Evaluation:
For this assessment we had to Create a range of stop motion films, One at home, one in a location and one at college. To create these i used Cannon 5D camera in the studio and Cannon 400 for shooting on a location and at home. When we were practicing what we could do we would sometimes experiment with a tripod, and using different backgrounds and settings - for some of our final pieces and experiments we used a path a steps to create the 'Hug' movie and the college studio to create my final stop frame movie.

I was inspired by some of the Stop motion films i researched and looked at because i quite liked the slow moving films and more on the romantic and soft side. Which is what i aimed to get in my final piece. I think i worked well and managed to produce a professional and clean final movie. I am over all pleased and think that the work from the other artists help me with my idea and final decisions quite a lot and help me prefect my final out come.

Over all i am pleased with my final outcome and think that it worked really well. I believe i have created and effective piece of work that is at quite a high standard - if i was to improved it i would do this by creating more of a setting for my background and work on the actors outfits so it all links together well - and created a proper image. Also i would give myself more time to create it as there were lots of us in the studio at the same time so i was a bit rushed using the camera. To conclude i am very please with my final stop motion film. :)
